Safety Signage
Compliance first. Everything else follows.
Safety signage isn't decoration — it's specified to ISO 7010 and BS 5499 because it has to mean the same thing to every person who reads it, in an emergency, without hesitation. We audit a site against current standards before we quote anything, so you're not paying to replace signs that are already compliant, and not left with gaps an HSE inspection would flag.
Covers everything from a single fire exit sign to a full site safety pack across offices, retail units, warehouses and construction sites.

What's covered
Fire exit / escape
BS 5499 running-man and directional escape route signage, photoluminescent where required.
Hazard
Yellow triangle hazard warning signs for slip, trip, electrical and general risk areas.
PPE mandatory
Blue circle mandatory signage — hard hats, hi-vis, eye and ear protection zones.
Prohibition
Red circle prohibition signage — no smoking, no unauthorised access, no naked flames.
Construction site boards
Site information, contractor details and emergency contact boards for site entrances.
COSHH
Hazardous substance storage and handling signage to COSHH regulation requirements.
Photoluminescent
Glow-in-the-dark signage for escape routes in buildings without full emergency lighting.

Our process
01
Site audit
Walk the site against current ISO 7010 / BS 5499 requirements, note gaps and out-of-date signage.
02
Schedule
A clear list of what needs replacing, adding or removing, with a quote against it.
03
Supply
Signs manufactured in-house to the confirmed schedule, rigid or self-adhesive as needed.
04
Install
Fitted across the site, with a register kept for your next HSE inspection or insurance review.
Compliance in detail
ISO 7010 standardises the exact pictogram, shape and colour used for every safety sign category, so meaning doesn't depend on interpretation or language. BS 5499 specifically governs fire safety and escape route signage in the UK and aligns with ISO 7010 symbols. Under the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations, the duty to keep signage adequate and compliant sits with the employer or person in control of the premises — we supply and install to the standard, but that legal responsibility stays with the site operator.

Safety signage FAQs
What does ISO 7010 compliant safety signage mean?
ISO 7010 is the international standard defining the graphical symbols used on safety signs — the exact pictogram, shape and colour for fire, hazard, mandatory and prohibition signage. Compliant signage uses the standardised symbol set rather than a business's own interpretation, so meaning is consistent across sites and countries.
How quickly can urgent safety signage be turned around?
Standard safety signage from stock pictograms can often be turned around faster than custom commercial signage — get in touch with what's needed and we'll confirm a realistic timescale, which for straightforward fire exit or hazard signs is frequently within a few working days.
Do you supply rigid signs, self-adhesive, or both?
Both — rigid panel signs for permanent fixing to walls, doors and posts, and self-adhesive vinyl versions for surfaces like machinery, vehicles or windows where a rigid panel isn't practical. We'll recommend the right format for each location during survey.
Who is legally responsible for correct safety signage on a workplace?
Under the Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations, the employer or person in control of the premises is responsible for ensuring adequate and compliant signage is in place. We supply and install to the standard; the legal duty to maintain compliance sits with the site operator.
Can you supply bilingual or multi-language safety signage?
Yes — multi-language safety signage is common on sites with a diverse workforce or international visitors. Pictogram-led ISO 7010 signage already communicates most meaning visually; we can add text in additional languages alongside or instead of English where it's useful.
What's the difference between BS 5499 and ISO 7010?
BS 5499 is the British Standard specifically covering fire safety signage — escape route and fire equipment signs. ISO 7010 is the broader international standard covering the full range of safety sign pictograms. UK fire signage is typically specified to both, since BS 5499 references and aligns with ISO 7010 symbols.
How much does safety signage cost?
It depends on sign size, material (rigid versus self-adhesive), whether it's photoluminescent, and whether you need a single sign or a full site safety pack — fire exit, hazard, PPE and prohibition signage supplied and installed together. Call us with your requirement and we'll quote it properly.
What is photoluminescent signage and when is it required?
Photoluminescent signage absorbs ambient light and glows in the dark for a period after lights fail, helping people follow escape routes during a power cut. It's commonly specified for fire escape route signage in buildings without dedicated emergency lighting along every route, or as a backup where emergency lighting exists.
Can you audit our existing site signage against current regulations?
Yes — we can survey an existing site, note where signage is missing, out of date or doesn't match current ISO 7010 pictograms, and provide a schedule of what needs replacing or adding ahead of an HSE inspection or insurance review.
What's a mandatory sign versus a prohibition sign?
Mandatory signs (blue circle, white pictogram) instruct an action that must be taken — 'hard hats must be worn'. Prohibition signs (red circle with diagonal bar) forbid an action — 'no smoking'. Mixing the two up is a common site-signage mistake we catch during compliance audits.
What material is best for outdoor hazard signage?
Rigid aluminium composite or polypropylene with a UV-stable print and laminate is the usual choice for outdoor hazard signage — it resists fading, doesn't warp like correx over time, and can be fixed with tamper-resistant fixings where site security is a concern.
Do you supply signage for construction sites specifically?
Yes — construction site boards, hazard warnings, PPE mandatory signage and site entrance information boards are a regular part of our safety signage work, usually specified alongside our road and traffic signage range for sites with vehicle movements.
What is COSHH signage and do you supply it?
COSHH (Control of Substances Hazardous to Health) signage identifies storage areas and hazards for substances covered by COSHH regulations — chemical stores, hazardous waste points and similar. We supply and install COSHH signage as part of a site safety pack or as standalone signs.
